Train

The Tarragona train station is in the Plaza Pedrera . There are 8 trains a day to and from Madrid , and many to Barcelona , just up the coast, about an hour and a half away. The station at Tarragona is close to the port and to the main street, the Rambla Nova . Turn right out of the station and go up the hill; there are several hotels on this end of the Rambla .

More than enough trains make the 1 to 1 1/2-hour trip to and from the Barcelona - Sants station. Five trains per day make the 8-hour trip from Madrid . In Tarragona , the RENFE office is in the train station, the Plaza Pedrera s/n (tel. 90-224-02-02).

Bus

From Barcelona , there are 10 buses per day to Tarragona (1 1/2 hr.); from Valencia, 10 buses (3 1/2 hr.), and from Alicante , six buses (6 1/2 hr.). Call tel. 97-722-91-26 in Tarragona for more information.

Car Hire

To drive, take the A-2 southwest from Barcelona to the A-7, then take the N-340. The route is well marked. This is a fast toll road. The one-way cost of the toll road from Barcelona to Tarragona is 8 ($9.20).
